Began Work

An image for today…This was from a class in collage last year…Tomorrow images from the work I did today.

Today I started working toward the Artist Market show coming up on July 29th. I have a painting that I finished and one that I began. I also finished a commission for Regi Carpenter, story teller, for her new CD. I will post images tomorrow for these pieces. For now…Good Night.

Dolls and Fiber

My most recent art venture has been in the realm of fiber. I have had my new Majacraft Spinning Wheel for almost two weeks. I also attended Roc Day…a medieval holiday to mark the return to spinning or work after the Christmas festivals are done.

I purchased wool to spin and have spun up some very nice yarn and have begun to knit it to find the gauge. I will scan it in so you can see how pretty it is.

I have also doodled up some sketches for new dolls since it seems that there is a revival of interest in my dolls. This is extremely fun for me at this particular time in my life. Here’s to dolls and fiber. Yay!

Hello world!

It has taken me long enough to get to this Blog…but I have finally created Soft People The Art of Dollcrafting the BLOG!

Here is the cover of my doll making book published in 1979 by Crossing Press in Trumansburg, New York. It was published under my former name Loretta Pompilio.

In this blog I will talk about Dollmaking.

This past weekend I went to Roc Day which is a celecbration for Spinners stemming from the Middle Ages. My dollmaking career and my interest in spinning occurred virtually simultaneously. Many spinners at this celebration asked me if I was going to be making dolls again. Coincidentally, a few weeks ago I made a date with a friend to make dolls today (two days after Roc Day). I said…”yes” (I am planning to make dolls again). I was also approached to teach some doll making workshops. I said “yes” to this also. It looks as if dollmaking is going to be making a come back in my art life. Yay Dolls!
